As of December 2025, I have switched my ASUS Zephyrus laptop from CachyOS to Windows 11 Pro to better align with my current needs and software requirements.

Today, I’ve started a timeline to track my experience using CachyOS on my Zephyrus G15 laptop.

I ran into networking issues with Virt-Manager on CachyOS. My virtual machines couldn’t access the internet unless I switched from UFW to Firewalld. Because of that, and the constant large updates, I switched to Ubuntu 25.10, where internet connectivity for my VMs works flawlessly.

After using Ubuntu 25.10 on my laptop for a few days, I was more and more bothered by the slow app start. The terminal, Files, Browser, all took roughly two seconds to launch. If the laptop were my only device, I might have gotten used to it. But switching between GhostBSD and Ubuntu made the delay feel even longer than it was.
Because of that, and a few more issues, I did the unthinkable and installed Windows 11 Pro. This completes my migration plan and officially ends my 25-year Linux journey.

Now that Windows 11 Pro has been running for several weeks, I want to document that the laptop has exceeded my expectations. This is most likely the last timeline entry, so I want to note that until Microsoft enforces mandatory registration and login to use their operating system, I will continue using Windows.
The advantages compared to Linux are too numerous to list. However, once using Windows without an MS account is no longer possible, I will attempt to switch the laptop from Windows 11 Pro to Linux. As the saying goes, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
If you are considering to revert your laptop from Linux to Windows, then search YouTube for “Chris Titus Windows Utility“. Chris’s scripts and Rufus are the reasons why Windows runs on my Zephyrus G15 laptop.
