This part of the ernstrenner.com website will feature reviews of products that I use on a day-to-day basis. You will find a wide variety ranging from computer hardware, software, audio equipment, musical instruments and other components which I needed to learn about.
I believe that some of the knowledge that I picked up over the years will be of value to you as well. Amazingly, it’s often the small things that make the biggest difference.
Many bloggers use IKEA furniture to set up their in-house studios. I went that route as well because I wanted a table that was long enough to fit two 28″ monitors and a pair of Mackie studio monitors. Most computer desks are not wide/long enough to hold that kind of equipment. The IKEA solution was cheap, effective and ideal as far as dimensions go.
But there was a big problem. The desk top (platform) slid every time I would bump into it with the chair. It bugged me for the longest time until inspiration stuck.
Simply cut up some cheap foam ear plugs which workers wear in noisy factories. Just six tiny 2 – 3 millimeter (1/16 of an inch) pieces placed between the shelf cases and desk top will do the trick. Now my make-shift desk is rock solid. I can’t even move that top if I wanted to because of all the heavy equipment placed on it.
Some problems have a simple and inexpensive solution that requires a little bit of “out-of-the-box” thinking and others, well, they cost money. Sometimes even paid solutions are not working as expected in which case more money needs to be spent to achieve the best results.
